Multi-tasking. This is perhaps the biggest feature in Tangent and the largest time saver it is certainly the feature most customers have asked for. You can now have your cutter working in the background while you open, configure and nest other jobs. With Tangent's sheet based cutter control window, you always know what job is cutting and can pause, cancel or change a job at any time with a click of the mouse.
Background nesting. You can set a job to autonest in the background in fact you can queue a whole set of autonesting jobs to run while you are opening, configuring and cutting other jobs.
Template based. Templates are huge time-saving feature. With templates, you can save an entire cut configuration so all the factors like tool assignment, speed, acceleration, overcut or undercut, smoothing etc. can be saved and re-used on new queues. The next time you need to use a configuration, you just import your patterns into a template and hit the cut button.
External programs like CAD software and ParaSol can link directly with Tangent templates so patterns open directly in the right template with the right nesting, tool selection and cutting configurations pre-set.
Comprehensive DXF Imports. Handling very large DXF files in Tangent has been greatly improved with imports several times faster. Translation routines have been added for many more esoteric spline types found in programs like CATIA, Pro Engineer and AutoCAD with improved support for text entities containing large quantities of text.
Most importantly, you no longer have to make sure your files conform to DXF-AAMA layer naming conventions. Files can now use any layer names or numbers which make sense to you and the layers mapped to Tangent paths on import and saved with the template.
Multiple windows and Open GL graphics. Tangent has always had multiple windows and now with Open GL graphics, multiple windows are even more useable. Patterns have transparency so you can clearly see overlaps, background panels and previously hidden patterns in a queue. Dragging patterns between windows is faster and more intuitive.
Background Panels. Background panels can be anything from an odd length and width of fabric, a complex shape such as a hide outline or even a photograph that you can nest directly over. With Automatic Data Entry (ADE) you can import background panels as well as cut patterns enabling better management of short roll ends and waste management.
Automatic Date Entry. Using Automatic Data Entry (ADE) you can generate cutting patterns directly from programs like order management software, spreadsheets and word processors. Because ADE can eliminate re-entering design data at the cutting station, there's a big improvement in accuracy, productivity and a reduction in waste caused by mistakes.
Built-in Swatch Making. Using Tangent's simple rectangles and grids function and a punch tool, you can create an array of swatches in a few seconds. If there's an empty space in a nesting queue, this can be quickly filled with swatches to minimise waste fabric.
64 bit universal Cocoa application. This is where most of the time and money has gone in the last few years. While most PC nesting applications look like (and probably are) old DOS-based applications, dragged kicking and screaming into some windows based environment, Tangent 6 is a truly modern application which has all the user interface controls and features which you expect in a modern program.
Unlimited Undos. With multiple undos, you can play around with a nest for ages secure in the knowledge that you can undo the whole lot if you want to. All this with no speed hit.

View cut points. Although this is not a new feature, it's worth a mention. With Tangent you can see both your original design paths and the path your cutter will take around a pattern. If there's smoothing applied or if your design program has output a path as a spline or a polygon, you can see exactly how this will cut in Tangent and use Tangent's new tools to change this if required.
Change cut direction. Tangent now has a toolbox and apart from the normal zoom and selection tools, there are others which connect to some new and powerful features. With Show cut points selected, you can now click on a corner point of a path to change the direction of a cut. Essential when cutting tight queues in difficult material.
Change start points. With Tangent's new start point tool, you can guarantee that the start points of cut paths exported from your designs or CAD software will be where you want them to be. In conjunction with being able to change the cut direction of paths on the fly, this is another essential tool for productive work with frequently cut jobs.
Change cut paths and tool assignments. Aeronaut has always promoted the idea of using multiple paths. Even if you only have one cutting tool and a pen, it makes sense to split your drawings up into different cut paths to give you more flexibility when working for example to change overcuts or undercuts, to use a different cut speed or pressure or to change the cut order in a pattern. With Tangent , you can quickly change path assignments without needing to go back into your design program.
Edit corner points and smoothing. The fastest way to work has always been to draw a pattern in CAD software and let Tangent work out what is a corner and what is a point on a curve. The trouble is that even the best design software sometimes makes mistakes and you may need to turn a curve point into a corner or a corner into a point on a curve. This is now easy in Tangent and your changes are saved in the file.
Intelligent splitting. With Tangent , splitting patterns has never been so easy or accurate and you can quickly can split any pattern and all internals adding seam allowances and strike up marks.
Calculating edit fields . If you want to split a pattern by thirds or to move patterns exactly 25mm along a queue, there's no need to pull out your calculator because you can enter the calculations in Tangent's edit fields and let the computer do the hard work.
Calibration Assistant. Automated cutters need to be accurate and to make this as easy as possible for busy workers, Tangent has a simple user friendly calibration assistant to walk you through the routine of calibrating and aligning your machine
Password protected preferences. In Tangent , critical configuration pages in preferences are password protected to make sure that important elements in the machine configuration are only changed by qualified people.
