Mikron 2 Compact Cutting System
Twice the speed. Half the price.
That's what a potential distributor had to say about Aeronaut's Mikron 2 cutter after a lengthy evaluation. With two Cam-lock tool holders, a pen holder and Cyclops machine vision camera, the Mikron 2 is a remarkably powerful machine at a very reasonable price.
The Mikron 2 is an integrated cutting system with a vacuum table and base enclosing the vacuum pumps and optional air compressor. It's made in a range of common sizes which are as much at home in a design studio as a production cutting room.
Top performance at an affordable price.
The Mikron 2 is a two tool Cam-lock cutter which comes with a pen holder and a Cyclops machine vision camera… and a few tricks up its sleeve.
It's fast and durable enough to do multi-shift production work, and versatile, precise and quiet enough that it's an asset to any design studio, whether working with technical textiles or packaging.
With its Cyclops machine vision camera and Tangent's automatic recognition of registration marks (ARRM), the Mikron 2 is a great cutter for print to cut work.
The Mikron 2 can be fitted with one or two plunge tool axes so that the cutting blade can be quickly raised and lowered while the depth stop is down on the material being cut, improving speed and accuracy.

Advantages
Small but Powerful
If you don't need to cut wide materials and your patterns and nests are short, then the Mikron 2 will do everything you want.
Future Proof
The wide range of tools which can be fitted to the Mikron 2 make it able to handle a wide range of work from rigid materials to roll textiles.
Long Service Life
Engineered without compromise, the Mikron 2 is built to last, delivering reliable performance over decades.
Superior Speed and Accuracy
The compact size of the Mikron 2 means high acceleration and good speed, making light work of complex jobs.
Very low maintenance
The Mikron 2 is designed for low maintenance. The drive system is belt driven with no hard to replace and rapidly wearing gears to worry about.
Compact and Quiet
The compact footprint and integrated design makes the Mikron 2 as suitable for design studio use as high volume production.
On the Mikron 2, there are two Cam-lock tool shafts which can fit any type of tool in the wide range.
Cam-lock tools can be changed by hand in a few seconds so you can fit the tools you need, when you need.
The Cam-lock tool range includes 18mm, 28mm and 45mm rotary blades, plunge, tangential or drag knives with various depth stops for normal and high friction materials, creasing and scoring tools in a wide range of profiles and drill-punch sizes from pin to over 25mm. Drill-punch inserts are easy to sharpen and exchange.
Industries
The Mikron 2 was originally designed with packaging and sign work in mind, to be an industrial strength agile and accurate machine without the heavy price tag of European machines. It's the perfect cutter for most packaging and digitally printed materials.
Fitted with an inkjet print head, the Mikron 2 is perfect for swatches where the print, punch and cut operations can be done without moving the substrate.
Because the Mikron 2 is small and versatile, it's also being used for technical college and design studios. It's a great machine for production and lab-scale medical work from custom-slings to bandages.
The Mikron 2 is big enough to fit a half hide so it works well in small upholstery and bag operations where a mix of leather, fabric and PVC is cut.
Packaging
The Mikron 2 was designed for packaging and is as home in the design office as in short run boxes where the cost difference between a Mikron 2 and the competition is enough to make a business profitable. For packaging work, the Mikron 2 uses a plunge knife, creasing tool and Cyclops camera for registration mark recognition.
Upholstery
For custom, aftermarket and short run upholstery and trimming work, the Mikron 2 is a great performer. Fitted with an 18mm and 28mm rotary blade cutter or drag knife, the Mikron 2 can do the job. The Cyclops camera and an optional overhead SiliconEye camera make aligning and digitising patterns a quick and easy process.
Technical Bags
If your products are small and you use only narrow fabric, then you don't really need a long and wide cutting table. With a quiet integrated vacuum pump and optional air compressor, the Mikron 2 is a cheap to run and highly productive tool in your workroom.
Technical Garments
Aeronaut normally avoids work in the garment industry but the Mikron 2 can find a place in both technical garments where there are many one-off jobs with many detailed pieces to cut. And if you are working in fashion, the Mikron 2 has a place in the sample room or for cutting short runs.

Software, Nesting and Technology
Nesting and Control
Aeronaut's Tangent software is the key to reducing fabric waste and Tangent's powerful and user friendly cutter control is essential to increase production.
Autonesting
Fast and efficient autonesting can pay for a cutting system in months if your fabric is expensive - and isn't waste fabric the most expensive fabric in your business?
Rapid Patterning
Aeronaut has developed rapid patterning software and CAD plugins to reduce the design to cut time down to a few minutes on complex patterns.
Autotracing Patterns
Aeronaut's revolutionary SiliconEye machine vision software can accurately trace and digitise a table full of patterns in seconds.
Aligning Patterns
With Aeronaut's full-table or gantry mounted machine vision systems, aligning cut profiles to patterned fabric or digitally printed material is simple.
Inkjet Printing
Inkjet printing is the fastest way to do pattern numbers, markings and reference text on almost any fabric.
Why Automate?
Most of the benefits of automation are obvious, others less so.
- Automation will increase productivity without increasing staff numbers while at the same time reducing waste, mistakes and staff stress at busy times.
- If you don't want growth, automation can let you produce the same number of good quality products with fewer staff.
- Automation reduces your reliability on key workers and conventional skills while attracting another generation of workers who might be entirely happy with computers but less so pushing a pair of scissors.
- Automation adds value to a business since the IP, designs and patterns are all digitised and can be stored off-site.
- Cutting accurate patterns no longer depends on key workers. Aeronaut cutter are easy to operate so many people can run a cutter and saved jobs can be easily recut.
- Automation means you can do more markings and more markings means faster, more accurate and more reliable assembly. The cutting and marking process may take a while longer but the sewing, welding or bonding operations are much faster.
Why Aeronaut?
- Apart from the obvious reason that Aeronaut has some of the best people around in sales, design, software and support…
- Aeronaut cutters are legendarily reliable. We've got dozens of cutters over 20 years old which are still doing the same reliable job for their owners.
- The cost of ownership of an Aeronaut cutter is very low. Upgrades, spares and service are readily available even for 30 year old machines.
- Over a third of new machine orders are from customers who already own at least one Aeronaut cutter, something which applies across the board from NASA contractors to the boat cover maker down the road.
- Aeronaut's cutters are rationally designed machines. As one customer said, "if we'd bought another make of cutter, we'd have spent more on plastic covers than we did on our whole machine".
- Aeronaut cutters may be overbuilt, like a '70s Mercedes and there's a sense of security in knowing that your 3 metre wide cutter is also working somewhere else at 6 metres wide.
- If it's yellow, it doesn't break! 90% of components are made in-house on one of 5 CNC machines, most of which are German 5 axis machining centres. If we made it once, we can make it again.
